On May 28th LRP staff had the opportunity to attend the Exploring Youth Resilience: Mental Health & Wellness workshop put on by the RCMP and Cowichan Tribes. Our day started with a presentation by Safe Youth Cowichan on the great work they have been doing in the Cowichan area, followed by a beautiful demonstration of youth resiliency in action by the Tzinquaw Dancers.
Throughout the day we were fortunate to have several amazing presenters, including Gary Anaka discussing “Understanding the Teenage Brain” (turns out if you sit too long and “your bum is numb, so is your brain!”), Jesse Miller on social media awareness, and Lyndsay Wells and Matt Dunae of the Vancouver Island Crisis Line discussing suicide prevention. To finish off a great day of training, we got to see Sirreal perform several of his incredibly inspiring rap songs. Thank you to all involved in planning, hosting, and presenting at this workshop!
