Parenting Course

ParentsThe Parenting Course for parents of teens has just finished its Fall Session. The facilitators, Karen & Philip, would like to thank all those who attended and contributed over the past 4 weeks. Finding an hour and half every Wednesday night wasn’t easy and we applaud all those who did.

We covered a range of topics:

Week 1Be Curious – included discovering your parenting style and “who owns the problem?”

Week 2 –  Compassion – included being a “good enough” parent, a video on the Teenage brain and “are we having fun yet?”

Week 3Courage – response styles (flight, fight or freeze), praise & encouragement.

Week 4Change – reviewed attachment, collecting, and media struggles (Common Sense Media)

We hope to offer another Parenting Course for parents of teens in the New Year. If you want more information and/or know you would like to attend please contact us at COS and reserve your spot as spaces are limited.  250-748-0232

If you can’t wait and are in need of support Karen & Philip are available at the Parents Drop-in Group Wednesdays November the 18th & 25th 6:30pm – 8pm – no appointments necessary and no need to register.

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
