Cowichan Valley Youth Services strives for authentic and meaningful solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. CVYS is acknowledging and taking action against the atrocities and acts of injustice and violence impacting Black individuals, families, and communities. We at CVYS will continue to make every effort to be advocates and allies in combating the systemic racialized violence and human rights violations impacting Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). We cannot and will not ignore the fact that racism, violence and inequity is taking place on a local and global scale. As an organization, as counsellors, and as human beings, we have a responsibility to be advocates and allies for our community. We cannot, we must not, and we will not look away from the inequities and injustices which impact our clients, our colleagues, our families, our communities, and the world. Our commitment is to educate ourselves, to listen to and elevate the voices of BIPOC, to honour and celebrate lived experiences, to fight against injustice and for justice, and to signal safety. We have been silent for too long – we will be accountable, we will be reflective and take action, and we will do so with the deepest love and respect in our hearts. We see you, we celebrate you, and we are here for you.
